Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Somers Town Coffee House This grade II listed pub on Chalton Street is said to have originally been a meeting place for Huguenot intellectuals who came to socialise and drink coffee - hence the unusual name. This pub, perhaps more than any other in London, divides opinion on what pubs should be all about. Previously a very ordinary back street 'booza' with a clientele of locals, it has now been taken over by two French sisters who have taken it up market and turned it into what they describe as a 'bistropub'. Many local people have complained that they feel excluded, but it is undoubtedly a more successful business now. Love it or loathe it, it is certainly a striking building.
