DescriptionThe Shihoro Line's Taushubetsu Bridge.jpg |
The Shihoro Line's Taushubetsu Bridge 士幌線のタウシュベツ橋梁 Taushubetsu Bridge is a bridge that used to be used on the Shihoro Line in central Hokkaido. Unfortunately for the bridge, the river it ran along, the Nukabira River, was dammed in 1955, flooding the tracks that ran on the northeast side of the river. The year before the dam was completed, 1954, new tracks were opened on the southeast side of the river, out of the way of the planned new lake. The bridges on the northeastern side of the lake were abandoned. Taushubetsu Bridge is probably the most famous of the bridges on the Shihoro Line, as it reappears and disappears depending on the season and the level of the lake. Usually it's covered in late summer, so I was happy to see it still visible above the water. |
