English: The Sharpness Canal Taken from the high level bridge (swing bridge)this photo shows where the new dock meets the Sharpness canal. Before the new dock was created in the 1870s, boats entered the Sharpness canal (to the right) via the original sea lock (to the left). The new dock was created to accommodate larger vessels that could not navigate the canal all the way to Gloucester. |
