Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Scala Cinema (façade), Worcester Street, Wolverhampton - geograph.org.uk - 1671936.jpg |
English: The Scala Cinema (façade), Worcester Street, Wolverhampton This is all that remains of the row of small shops and businesses that formerly lined Worcester Street from between Little Brickiln Street and where Worcester Street merges with the Penn Road. Demolition has left a large triangle of land that is to be redeveloped, with due scrutiny by Wolverhampton Council. Luckily, the façade is to be integrated into the new development when it eventually materialises. http://www.tweedale.co.uk/triangle.htm
George Peck writes this: There were shops all along Worcester Street, and the Scala Picture House was near the bottom. It was a big picture house with an arched roof. It faced Church Street and was one of the first to have a musician playing to the audience in the break, a violinist. He was a little Jewish chap with a hunch back, called Loui Rennie. He was a good violinist. http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/articles/GeorgePeck3/VictoriaSt.htm |
