Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Ruins of Raghupur Garh (4000 m Approximately): Jalori Pass (altitude: 3350 m), open only in good weather from mid-April, which links Inner and Outer Seraj and is 76 km from Kullu. You may wish to take the bus up to the pass and walk down, or even camp a night at the pass. Check road conditions before travelling. A ruined fort, Raghupur Garh, sits high to the west of the pass and from the meadows there are fantastic views, especially of the Pir Panjal range. Take the path straight from the first hairpin after the pass and head upwards for 30-40 minutes. The road is suitable for 4WD vehicles. There is a very pleasant, gradual walk, 5 km east, through woodland (2-3 hours), starting at the path to the right of the temple. It is easy to follow. Lake Sarolsar (Pure Water) is where local women worship Burhi Nagini Devi, the snake goddess (which has inspired the traditional Mahasu Folk Dance "Nati"), and walk around the lake pouring a line of ghee (Clarified Butter). It is claimed that the lake is kept perpetually clear of leaves by a pair of resident birds (Supernatural, isn't it?). Dhabas (local food joints) provide simple refreshments and one has two very basic cheap rooms (6 $ -10 $) at the pass.
