More than 2000 people were imprisoned in the bar-racks at Kalarash whose only food was 200 grams of cornflour every 2 or 3 days. With insufficient clothing, perfectlydirty, without bedclothes, they soon lost all human like-ness. All their prayers for alleviation of their sufferings weremet by beating and shooting. Men were being killed uponthe least provocation. The Roumanian military authoritieswent so far as to kill children in front of their parentsand wives in front of their husbands. Any attempt atself-defence was followed by a martyrs death. Thesescenes have their parallel only in the excesses of Nero.The Roumanians exceeded even him. They made 200 men dig their own graves and thenenter into them, after which they were killed by the sol-diers. Some of them were even ordered to kill each other.
