Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Romans were here? In this view northeast from Upper Newton Farm, the top left hand corner of the ploughed field is close to the point at which the remains of a Roman villa were identified by the local historian Richard Fenton around the turn of the C19 and described in his Historical Tour through Pembrokeshire (1811). 200 years later archaeologist Dr Mark Merrony followed in Fenton's footsteps and confirmed the existence of Roman remains: one of the furthest western proofs of a Roman presence. The houses beyond belong to the lower settlement of Wolf's Castle, named Ford.
