English: The River Trent near Sawley This boom prevents boats from heading over Sawley Weir on the river to the right, rather than progressing into Sawley Cut, which passes to the left of the photographer.
In the distance the M1 passes over part of a series of embankments and viaducts over the Trent and its flood plain. There's a page here http://www.iht.org/motorway/m1cricdonc.htm which deals with the construction of this section of the motorway. |
