that it is scarcely possible forthose who never saw it, to con-ceive the elegance and grandeur ofthe apartments, the boldness of thepaintings, or the effect producedby the disposition of the lights,which were reflected from gilt vases.Below the dome were a number ofstatues, repi*esenting most of thelieathen .gods and goddesses, sup- posed to be in the ancient Pantheonat Rome, from which it derived itsname.
