Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Remains of the Great Abbey of Cluny.jpg |
English: The story of this monument is so huge that I'll only talk about its destruction, the most important event. After the French Revolution of 1789, the State and the Church are splitted and the Abbey of Cluny (that has been the greatest and the most important cathedral from its construction to the construction of St Pierre of Rome) is given to the Nation. Then the revolutionaries looted all the furnitures and the valuable things. After that, the merchant and the people use the Abbey as a stone pit. So today, you still can visit the monument that is already huge, but it's only a small part of what it was initially. However, on site, you can find some clue that let you imagine how insanely huge the Abbey of Cluny was.

I've had the chance to visit this Abbey with a retired guide, that was a friend of my friend's mother. It was so interesting to learn so much about it ! This monument has such a crazy story
