Description
English: This picture contains the some historic monuments of Madhya Pradesh,India. The building on the extreme left is The Jahangir Mahal, 17th century mansion, is remarkable for its vivid and fine Indo-Islamic style of architecture. The reason behind the construction of this palace was to honor Jahanghir on his first visit to Orchha.

The Jahangir Mahal was built in 17th century by Bundela ruler, Bir Singh Deo. This palace is the symbol of friendship between the Bir Singh Deo and Jahangir during his first visit to Orchha. The front wall of the palace is covered with turquoise tiles and faces to the east. The magnificent Palace is a tourist destination for its grace and finest piece of architecture during Bundela Dynasty. This three storied structure is situated in the Fort complex of the Tikamgarh District of Orchha, it overlooks the Betwa River. The entrance facing the east is elaborate with the wall designed with turquoise tiles. Two stone elephants greet you at the entrance with a bell, which used to mark the entry of the king in the olden times.

Next is the Gwalior Fort next to the Jahangir Mahal, This fort has existed at least since the 10th century. It was referred to as 'the pearl amongst fortresses in India' by Mughal emperor Babur. Next is the Orange-tint coloured temple called the Ram raja temple , also known as Orchha Temple, holds religious importance as it is the only temple in India where Lord Rama is worshipped as King Rama. Built in the 16th century, it is believed that the structure used to be a citadel in the kingdom of Madhukar Shah, who changed it to Rama Temple when Lord Rama appeared in his dream and asked him to install his statue in the place. The auspicious occasion of Ram Navami makes thousands of devotees visit this temple to offer their prayers to Lord Rama. Interestingly, not just is he worshipped as a king here, gun salutes are also offered as a mark of devotion and respect. And last but not least the Chaturbhuj Temple of Orchha, is one of the most fabulous and ancient architectural marvels of the time in the town. It was built by king Madhukar in between the years 1558 and 1573. The temple houses an idol of Lord Vishnu with four arms but was originally meant for Lord Rama’s idol. Legends say that when Lord Rama’s idol which is placed at the Rani Niwas, the private residence of Raja Madhukar’s wife- Maharani Gansh Kunwar, rejected to move to the temple, an idol of Lord Vishnu with four arms was kept in the temple and this is how the temple came to be known as Chaturbhuj Temple.
