Summary

[edit]
Description

The Police Camp Cottage at Butlers Green would have to be the most photographed structure in Arrowtown. The front door of this iconic building has long been locked, but it will soon be opened up again.

The cottage was built in 1863 and is Arrowtown's oldest surviving timber building. It was constructed from pit-sawn red beech and had hand-cut shakes on the roof. It was originally in Cardigan Street and was moved to its present site in 1991.

The Arrowtown Promotion and Business Association (that's us 😊) and the Lakes District Museum have worked with the community to restore the hut for use as an interpretation site. So from Saturday you'll be able to enter the building between 9am and 5pm. Inside you'll find lots of information about the Mahu Whenua open space behind our village and the flora and fauna there.

The official opening of the hut will be at 10am on Saturday 9 November. Public are welcome to attend the ceremony and there will be refreshments for invited guests following formalities.

Public domain
The Public Domain Mark (PDM) is not a copyright license, but a symbol used to indicate that a work is in the public domain. When it is applied by the author or the copyright holder, community consensus has decided such works as being public domain in the US and countries where it is legally possible to release own work to the public domain. In the countries where this is not possible, the copyright status of the work remains undetermined.
If a file is tagged with Public Domain Mark by someone other than the author or the copyright holder, a more specific copyright tag such as one found at Commons:Copyright tags/General public domain must be applied. If this is your own work, please use {{Cc-zero}} instead.
