But as these werenot begun during the lifetime of his late Majesty, and as the erection p p 866 LONDON. of new mews could be no longer put off, the present stables weredesigned for the establishment of her present Majesty in the year 1839,when Parliament voted the sum of 70,000/. for their erection, that beingtheir estimated cost; and it is worthy of remark that that sum was notexceeded by Mr. Ashton, the architect who carried this work into exe-cution after the death of Sir Jeffry Wyatville.
