During the next two school years, thisband of Alj)ha Taus became the out-standing band in Indiana college circles,and in the summer of 34 gained a con-tract at the outstanding summer dancespot in Indiana—Fairview Gardens atLake Manitau. This proved to be thebreak they needed. Scouts from bigbooking concerns * caught the band,and the M. C. A. offered them a wintersengagement at the Blackstone Hotel inFort Worth, Texas, under the nameleader, Richard Cole, former PalmerHouse maestro in Chicago.
