HUNTING IN THE KOOKY MOUNTAINS. Jtailway. —The traveler notices with interestthe ever frequent windmills which appear atevery station, and are such prominent objectsover the broad prairies. They are used for sup-plying the locomotives and station houses withwater. Probably no finer specimens exist in the United States thanare found on thelines of this road.In these tanksis a large hollowglobe floating inthe water. Theseglobes are so con-nected with lev-ers that when thewater has reacheda certain height,the slats or fansare thrown in linewith the wind, andthe machine stops.As the water isdrawn off for sup-plying the locomo-tives, the ball falls,and the machineis again put in mo-tion. They arethus self-regula-ting and self-act-ing. The water isthrown up by aforcing pump. Acurious fact maybe here mention-ed.
