NOBTHEBN CALIFORJS^IA, AND WASHINGTON TERRITORY, Some of the finest scenery on the continent isto be found in Oregon and Washington Territory.The tourist en route to tliis from San Franciscomay take a steamer of the Pacific Coast Steam-ship Compiiny, or the Pacific Mail SteamshipCompany, or tlie Oregon Steamship Company.There are two or three steamers a weelt at allseasons. Or, if one desire to see the country and avoidthe ocean, let him take the Central Pacific Rail-road to Redding, and the stages of the C^aliforniaand Oregon Stage Company to Roseburg. Thewhole 375 miles of stage route is through themost beautiful, wild, and sublime scenery. Theroad follows the valley of the Sacramento Riverto its head-waters at the foot of Mt. Shasta, 14,-444 feet high, and ))asses along the base of thislofty, snow-capped and glacier-clad butte. (See Head-waters of tlie Sacramento and Mt. Shas-ta.) It then crosses the Siskiyou and RogueRiver Mom
