The two falls are very unlike,but equally interesting^, the Upper perhaps notp<)ssessinj)^ as much of grandeur as the Lower.Thr; hei.i^ht of the former is UO feet. The river above is broken into rapids, and, reaching theedge, the entire volume of water seems to behuVled off the precipice with terrific force, sothat the mass is broken into most beautifulsnow-white drops, presenting, at a distance, thea)ipearance of snowy foam. Midway in itsdescent a ledge of rock is met with, which car- ries it away from the vertical base of the preci-pice. The water has worn a circular basin inthe hard rock. From any point, the view isstriliing- and picturesque. What it lacks in sub-limity is compensated for by its beauty.
