other andproducing a fan-shaped eruption. A short dis-tance above, on the opposite side of the river, isthe Grotto Oeyser which is easily recognizedby the peculiar form of its crater, from which ittakes its name. Tliere are two orifices, thel^rincipal one being in the larger and more irreg-ular mound, which is eight feet high, while thesmaller one is only four feet high. The inter-val between its eruptions is unknown. It throwsa column of water and steam from 40 to 60 feetabove its crater. Several hundred yards fartherback from the river, south-west from the Grotto,are the Pyramid, Punch Bowl, Bath Tub,and Black Sand Geysers. The Giant is about 400 feet south-east ofthe Grotto. It has a rough, cone-like crater,ten feet high, with one side broken down. Theorifice from which the water is expelled is aboutfive feet in diameter. It was also seen inaction in 1874, but the height was not measured.Following up the river on the south-west side,we next stop at the Castle. It is a cone, ris-ing a little over 11 feet above an irregular plat-form of sinter, that measures 75 by 100 feet, andis three feet high. The orifice of the geysertube is three feet in diameter, and circular, andits throat is lined with large orange-coloredglobular masses. In 1870, its eruption threw acolumn of water 140 feet above its crater, con-tinuing three houis.
