| Description |
The Old Fire Station, Beverley circa 1951 The old fire station was situated on the eastern side of Albert Terrace. During the course of its lifespan, the building had several uses and was originally constructed as a school back in 1861. This closed in 1890 and by 1904 it became the drill hall for the 2nd Battalion of East Yorkshire volunteers, which in turn was passed to Territorial Army and Royal Air Force use. By 1940, the building was requisitioned for the war effort. In 1945, a proposal was put forward for the Library to use the site, but this was rejected. The buildings were converted and used as the fire station by 1951, where it remained until 1983 before relocating to New Walkergate in a purpose built building.
