Bj so doing, the river soon wentout of its banks, took in all the treesthat could be found in the bottom, leaving only the tops protruding fromthe water, making it a cinch to collectfrom a boat. (That is, the trees thatare smaller in diameter than the onefollowing). As I was saying, we were zig-zagingin and out of the trees, keeping aclose watch out for good hollows. Wehad gotten no more than two hundredyards in the trees, when I happened tocast my optics on a good hollow downthree hundred feet in front of us. Thenwe put on full steam ahead. Then wewere guessing again how to get up. Raymon, after putting his woodenbrain to work, suggested stackingsome life belts, which we always car-ried along, up on the hood of the boat,by doing this it put me up about fourfeet. Then I held to the trunk untilRaymon could get under me where Icould stand on his shoulders, then Icould hold the hollow with one handand pulled myself up where I couldlook down in it. And lo and behold, after all this hard brain work andlabor, there was nothing in it but thebottom, and the pieces of rope and theanchor t
