ow the variation which in theseyears amounted to twenty-six days, in9 years from one location: Set of 3 March 9th, 1891. Set of 2 March 9th, 1893. Set of 2 March 16th, 1894. Set of 2 March 9th, 1895. Set of 2 April 5th, 1896, in vacatednest of Hawk in nearby high pine. Set of 2 March 18th, 1901. Set of 2 March 16th, 1904. Set of 2 March 20th, 1911. Set of 2 March 20, 1912. Seven of these sets were taken fromthe same nest which was located ina large cavity produced by the break-ing down of a very large limb on anold elm tree, large enough so that Icould stand erect in it, and one setin a nearby pine tree in a vacatedHawk nest after the elm tree was cutdown. Later I found a nest of tlie GreatHorned Owl which contained threevery large young, and took them home.One of them I presented to BrotherCrucius in Casisius College and itwas a great favorite with the brothers.It was kept in the college and had freeaccess to their dining room. One day it flew outof the open window and led by herinstinct went to a nearby chicken coopfor some young chickens. The ownerobserved it and struck it a viciousblow with a heavy stick and broke thewing bones, which finished it. Theother two are mounted, which makes ahandsome group with a large HornedOwl. I have other sets in different locali-ties. Edward Reinecke.Buffalo, N. Y. Accipiter Velox. It is not often that a person getsthe opportunity of observing a Sharp-shinned Hawk around Pittsburgh asthese birds are exceedingly scarce inthis vicinity. The last occasion I hadof seeing one was not a very joyfulone, yet it was intensely interesting. On the seventh of February whilewaiting for a shy Cardinal, which wairendered more shy by the proximity ofthe camera, to come to my feed-box Iwas suddenly surprised to see bothCardinal and several Song Sparrowsgo scudding
