Double Red-winged Blackbirds Nest -Photo by J. B. Lackey THE OOLOGIST 199 which were certainly Towhee nestsand all of them were elevated. Pos-sibly one reason for this is because wehave very little ground growth heresuited to Towhee nests. J. B. Lackey.Clinton, Mississippi. Double Blackbird Nest. On June 17, a friend and I were ex-amining a colony of Redwing nestswhich were in a thicket of young wil-lows growing in a dry pond near town. There was a large colony of nests, de-serted for the most part, as this is latefor Redwings here, but one discoverywe made was rare at least for us. Inone small willow a Redwing nest hadbeen built a month or so earlier andthen another had been built immedi-ately above this one, so close that thebottom of the top nest touched therim of the lower nest. Both were wellpreserved and both were empty. Ithink, however, that both at one timeheld eggs. I would like to know thehistory of these nests. We have noCowbirds here so the lower nest wasnot deserted becaus
