Looking down I sawa huge moccasin with his fangs hungin my pant leg trying to get loose.Quickly dropping the rifle I reacheddown and grabbed him by the neckjust as he got his fangs untangled andwe had it back and forth, I and thesnake, I happened to have one foot onhis tail and that gave me an advan-tage. I reached in my pocket with myright hand and getting my knife outopened it with my teeth and began tosaw his head off, evidently a painfuloperation for him as he ejected venomall over my shirt and when I finallysevered his head I picked up the rifleand staggered out of the pond to dryland where I lay down and put in anhour of as violent vomiting as I everexperienced and I was three days inrecovering from the nausea caused bythe peculiar odor of the snake.
