Edson, of High-land Park, Rochester, N. Y., reportsseeing one Hudsonian ChickadeeDecember 11, 1913, and January 2,1914, two more. These birds are un-usual in this locality. Books Received. FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THEMASSACHUSETTS STATE ORNI-THOLOGIST, 1912. This document just comes to hand,being issued by Edward Howe For-bush. It contains 34 pages of veryreadable matter and a number of in-teresting illustrations, and containsmuch that is interesting to the birdlover; especially matters relating tothe unlawful killing of birds and thepropogation of wild birds in confine-ment. Subscribers Notice.With this issue we cease mailingTHE OOLOGIST to all subscriberswhose subscription expired with No.305. This is in compliance with theUnited States Postals Laws. June 11th, 1912, broke clear and hot,a perfect day for a collecting trip.Soon after day break I was on myway and by 9 a. m. had reached thewilder country back of Long Ridge,some eight miles north of Stamford. The days hunt was started alongthe Mianus river, a beautiful streamwhich winds its way for miles throughgreat virgin hemlocks which keep thetemperature down and at the sametime boost up the spirits of one whoenjoys the glories of nature. I firstvisited a nest of the Louisiana waterthrush, from which I had taken afine set of five well incubated eggson May 24th. There was no secondset awaiting me however. This nestwas placed under the over-hangingroots on the bank of a small brooknear the river and was well set in soas to be completely protected fromrain or anything dropping from above.Dead leaves served as a foundation,the remainder of the nest bologistforstud311914latt
