l streams thatdried up each summer. No swampsor marshes. The timber was entirelyhardwood so that the warblers foundthere would be those inhabiting or mi-grating through a hardwood, moun-tainous region away from water orlarge valleys. 1. Black and White Warbler—Ar-rives about the middle of April withthe first of the warblers. Common mi-grant. Quite common as a breeder.Nests easy to find by watching thebirds, but female hard to flush as shesits close. 2. Worm-eating Warbler — Arriveslate in April and is quite common asa migrant. During the summer quitea few remain to breed. Rather shyand secretive. Pound it difficult toflush the old bird from the nest butnot hard to find by watching the birdswhile building. 3. Blue-winged Warbler — Expectedto find this warbler in summer butduring my entire stay I only saw one.That one I secured early in the sea-son (April 21st) from a small mixedflock of warblers. 4. Golden-winged Warbler—Arrivesabout April 20th. Not very common THE OOLOGIST 117

Nashville Warbler—Rather rarespring migrant. Did not see it in thefall. 6. Parula Warbler—Arrives quiteearly (April 12-21). Common migrantand quite common breeder. Foundnumber of nests from 8 to 60 feet fromthe ground. 7. Yellow Warbler. Arrived April17th to May 1st. Rather scarce. Apair was found now and then aboutthickets along the streams near fieldsand farms. Not a common breeder, asthe country was hardly suited to them. 8. Black-throated Blue Warbler—Ar-rived late in April and not noted laterthan May 20th. Not very common. 9. Myrtle Warbler—This warblerusually one of the commonest mi-grants, was seldom noted here.
