to go back and return on themorrow. We were up early the followingmorning and on hand in time to hear anumber of Rose-breasted Grosbeakssinging. Several Black-throated BlueWarblers sang from the tangle of rhod-odendron, so I went in to search fora nest. However, I failed to discoverit, even though the female bird madea great fuss. In a slender beech sap-ling we found a Rose-breasted Gros-beaks nest which held but two eggs.Further on were two more nests ofthis bird but they held no eggs atthat time. The Canadian Warblerswere certainly nesting nearby becausethey seemed so annoyed at our pres-ence. In the deep ravine they becametolerably common. At one place wesaw a Northern Raven fly across thewooded hill. Louisiana Water-thrusheswere quite numerous in the ravineswhere clear streams splashed along. The country about Cresson seems tobe suited for some of the Northernbirds but comparatively few of thecommon and more Southern birds werenoticed.
