lmettos, treeferns, royal palms and other semi-tropical plants. To the Southeast the land rises toa long even chain of mountains whichshut off the view in that quarter. To the East on a clear day, such asthe one on which we climbed SantaBarbara, a person can see way acrossthe island a distance of about twenty-five miles. With the exception of the Southand a small part of the East, wherethe Casas and Caballos mountainsrise, the Caribbean Sea is in sightall the way around, looking dark bluein the distance with here and therea white speck (the sail of some distantboat). To the Northwest the land lies flatand rather open. The mouth of thePine River about five miles distantis discernable while to the Southwest,the keys which partly surround theisland are plainly seen. The woods especially at this season,(October) are full of birds. Among thepines are to be seen the (Cuban) Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Ground Doves,Kingbirds, Sparrow-hawks, El-BoboPigeons, Yellow-throated Warblers, THE OOLOGIST

In the dense tropical tangles can befound the following (Cuban) GreenWoodpeckers, Pewees, Todies, Orioles;Little Green Herons, Yellow-facedGrassquits, Chillina Warblers, Amer-ican Redstarts; Cuban and PigmyOwls; also (Isle of Pines) Lizard Cuc-koos and Tanagers. A. C. Read. Nesting Records, McKinley, Isle ofPines, Cuba, for 1910. The scarcity of records is due to mebeing so busy that I could not lookespecially for nests and all those re-corded were found purely by accidentwhile working or looking up and pho-tographing tracts. Feb. 24—Cuban Ground Dove; neston ground. 2 eggs. Feb. 28—Cuban Ground Dove; neston ground. 2 eggs. Mar. 16—Cuban Ground Dove; neston ground. 2 young about 48 hoursold. Apr. 17—Cuban Kingbird. Nest justbegun in Jucaro tree about 12 feetfrom ground. Sticks and string. La-ter deserted.
