Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe No.2 Difference Engine - geograph.org.uk - 561461.jpg |
English: The No.2 Difference Engine Designed by Charles Babbage (1791-1871) to carry out complex mathematical functions, the No.2 Difference Engine was never built in his lifetime. To celebrate the bicentenary of his birth the Science Museum computing team built a replica which was completed in 1991 and is now on display in the museum. Such was the success of the project that they are now building another one, shown in this photo, for an American museum. It is a fitting tribute to Babbage, who is often thought of as the father of the computer. Info regards the Science Museum and its exhibits can be found at http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk |
