Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe New School at West Heath - Building reflects the 18th century Ashgrove mansion - geograph.org.uk - 919335.jpg |
English: The New School at West Heath - Building reflects the 18th century Ashgrove mansion On this part of the present building the castellations and the cupola with its weather vane, and elsewhere a long arched verandah at the back of the house, all ape the same features which were on the great three storey mansion that stood on the Ashgrove estate in the 18th century. That was when Captain Smyth established the grove of ash trees after which the estate was named, and dispersed a rioting mob at his door by mounting his horse and charging at them alone with a drawn sword. See 919317. For information on the New School http://www.westheathschool.com/ |
