A short notice styled In-formation was published by them in thenewspapers of Massachusetts, in which allofficers and soldiers of the late war, andall other good citizens who wished to beadventurers in the delightful region westof the Alleghenies, were requested to meetin their respective counties to elect dele-gates to a convention which would be heldon the first of March, 1786, at the Bunch

As a result of this call representativesof eight counties came together, and aftera discussion of three days an associationof a thousand shares was reported, eachshare consisting of one thousand dollars incontinental certificates, which were thenthe equivalent of one hundred and twenty-five dollars in gold, with a further liabilityto pay ten dollars in specie to meet the ex-penses of the agency. By the end of a yeartwo hundred and fifty shares had been sold,and the success of the enterprise was assured.It now seemed advisable to make applica-tion to Congress for a purchase of land,and one of the directors of the company,General Samuel Parsons, was sent to NewYork for this purpose.
