the father topoke thelong wormscarefully and thoroughly down the little throats. Itseemed sometimes as if the little birdsmust choke, but evidently they knewhow to dispose of all they could gel.We were reminded of what a verysmall boy once said: Ishouldntshinkthe birds would like to eat worms. Ishoo shink it would make em shick. Sometimes the mother-bird wouldsit on the nest awhile and then riseand feed the little ones. She had evi-dently been preparing the food forthem; but usually she gave the wholelong worm just as soon as she reachedthe nest. The little robins grew so fast thatsoon the nest was too small for them;and then we found that the parent 1 L ALL QUIET. birds had been wise in their selectionof a building place. The little birdswere much better off than if the nesthad been in a tree, as they could walkout of the nest on to the fence andstretch themselves, preen their feath-ers and learn how to use their legs andwings, without danger of falling.
