The hig-hest type of college life seems to be that ofsemi-reclusion in scholastic groups and of theintimate and agreeable association with otheryouths of the same age and with professorsthat dedicate themselves to teaching and in-vestigation». I could not have defined with more precisionor clearness the patriotic intentions and thepractical means that I have just sketched andon which are to be founded the plans adop-tep for the National College of La Plata, notonly with a view to its own and independentobject, but also in its relation to the univer-sitary nucleus, for which it will serve as a pre-paration.

O te O- h3 - E - - OF LA PLATA 97 THIRD CHAPTEROf the University Organisation I desire now to roughly sketch the constitu-tion and the object of the different schoolsthat compose the University, always on thebasis of what actually exists, as I have alrea-dy explained, and with the object of not in-troducing further modifications than thoserendered indispensable by the progress ofscience, either in the institutions themselves oramongst the professors, and I shall now en-deavour to describe the organisation accordingto the manner in which it should be definitelyestablished. However, I do not believe that it is suita-ble in the first document relative to its foun-dation to enter into all the details of its in-ternal organisation, but rather to establishthe basis and indicate its object and end, asfar as they may be of a permanent nature, soas to avoid in the future, different regulationsthat would alter the original idea of its foun-dation.
