Hanna as President of the Civic Federa-tion was warmly supported by its labor element,pointed out that in no otfaer country in the worldcould such a gathering be brought together. Only thedemocracy of American institutions made possiblethe commingling in unconscious equality and in con-scious co-operation for a common purpose representa- tives of billions of capital, of millions of wage-earn-ers, of scholarship and letters, of the bar, the press,the platform and the church. The list of speakersis a catalogue of active workers for better relationsbetween capital and labor in the United States. Theutterances of men eminent in widely different fieldsof thought and experience concurred in confidencethat the era of industrial peace, with all that it im-plies for national welfare, is not a dream, but canin a measure be realized.
