Description: The Queen's Statue, Cape Town. English: From a Photo. by S. B. BARNARD. THE QUEEN'S STATUE, CAPE TOWN. – This was unveiled on 21st January, 1890, by Lord Loch in commemoration of the first Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen, and is situated in the Gardens enclosure facing the Legislative Council entrance of the House of Parliament. The Town Council contributed £500 towards the cost, and the public of Cape Town also subscribed £500, whilst the Government supplied the pedestal, which is made from Paarl granite. The statue is an excellent piece of work, and was executed by Mr. Thomas Brock, the well-known sculptor.

DIE KONINGINSTANDBEELD, KAAPSTAD. – Dit is op 21 Januarie 1890 onthul deur Lord Loch ter herdenking van die eerste jubileum van Haar Majesteit die Koningin, en is geleë in die tuine-enklawe, voor die ingang van die Wetgewende Raad van die Parlementshuis. Die stadsraad het £500 vir kostes bewillig en die publiek van Kaapstad het 'n verdere £500 bygedra, terwyl die regering die voetstuk van Paarlgraniet voorsien het. Die standbeeld is 'n uitstekende werk en is uitgevoer deur die bekende beeldhouer, mnr. Thomas Brock.
