English: Description: The Royal Observatory.– The Cape may justly be considered one of the most important stations of the Southern Hemisphere for the purpose of taking astronomical observations. The Royal Observatory was established by the English Admiralty in 1820. The present buildings were completed 9 years later, and regular observations commenced in 1829. A new telescope, the gift of Mr. Frank McClean, of Tunbridge Wells, England, has just been erected, and it is anticipated that many valuable discoveries will be added to those already made.
