Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dedicated on June 17th, 1928, The Mystery of Life is the largest sculptural group at Forest Lawn, measuring over 15 feet wide and 8 feet tall. It is an original work of art carved by Italian sculptor Ernesto Gazzeri. Eighteen life-size figures are grouped around a stream that flows from an unseen source towards an unknown destination. The meaning of each figure’s pose and symbolism has incited as many interpretations as there have been observers. Each of the figures engages with the philosophical question of the “Mystery of Life” through inquiry, wonder, acceptance, or ignorance.
