Description
English: Regarded as being one of A. J. West’s finest photographs,the

Mohawk is seen here in 1884 racing off Hurst Castle at the Royal Southampton Regatta winning a first prize. This photograph was awarded the Gold Medal at the St Louis Convention against entries from 9 other countries. In the photo a crew member at the cross-trees is retrieving the flying outhaul. AJ West reported that this rope nearly got tangled in his own craft. Source:
