A textbook specifically devoted to the "practical instruction in the methods of examining vegetable foods, drugs, and their powders" written by Henry George Greenish, Professor of Pharmaceutics to the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Intended to provide students who already possess a background in botany the instruction necessary to examine vegetable powders. Content is ordered from the least complicated structures (starches) to the most complex forms (fruits and roots). Includes 168 illustrations of microscopic views, appendices listing reagents of general utility and the chief varieties of cell walls and contents, an index, and a list of other publications by J. & A. Churchill publishers. The work is digitized in its entirety.
