Shoe polishers, better known as "boleros" (although they do not seem to like the name much), constitute a profession that dates back to the Mexico of the 1930s and today faces a series of difficulties in order to survive. Shoe cleaning is one of the most traditional jobs in Mexico. It was a profession that had its height in the 40s, when men used to polish their shoes before going to dance, because the one with the brightest shoes would be the lucky winner of a lady's heart.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, currently a total of 156 women and 2,993 men work as accredited shoe cleaners in Mexico City, preserving, in many cases, a family tradition, since this work It is played by people whose family has done this for years.
