Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Marquess of Granby in Abbey Road, Bourne, Lincolnshire (geograph 4279359).jpg |
English: The Marquess of Granby in Abbey Road, Bourne, Lincolnshire
Many solidly built Victorian public houses still provide useful service in our towns and cities and Bourne has the Marquess of Granby in Abbey Road, built during the late 19th century to replace an earlier inn on the site named after a distinguished soldier, John Manners, Marquis of Granby (1721-1770), who served in the Seven Years' War as Colonel of the Blues. After his military campaigns, he set up his senior non-commissioned officers who had been disabled in action as innkeepers which accounts for the large number of hostelries throughout the country that bear his name. This one closed in April 2011 and was sold to the present owners who have given it a new lease of life as a health, beauty and fitness salon. |
