rd that gives a brief outline of its history. Forgotten by the public at large, still Menlo Park means some-thing to the electric light industry. This year public utilities throughoutthe country are participating in a Golden Jubilee demonstration markingthe 50th anniversary of Edisons invention of the incandescent lamp andacknowledging its tremendous influence in making electricity a com-modity almost as universally used as food and clothing — an influencewhich obviously had much to do with dotting the country from coastto coast with big central stations which now meet the demand of anever-increasing electrical load. In a sense, then, Edisons plant at Menlo Park, with its small boiler,engine, and dynamo which sent current through the first group ofincandescent lamps and drove the experimental trolley cars, was reallythe forerunner of the huge central stations of today.
