The museum was built in 1890 at 682 Old Kent Road, as "Camberwell Public Library, No. 1", a gift of George Livesey (born 1834), Company Secretary of the South Metropolitan Gas Company. It closed as a library in 1966, and was reopened in 1974, by Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman, as an interactive children's museum. |
