Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Lansdowne Arms pub - Studley, Wiltshire.
  • The original pub which stood here was named the Shelbourne Arms, dating from at least 1810. By 1838 it was known as the Lansdowne Arms. Both names refer to the owner of Bowood House, bought in 1754 by John Petty, Lord Shelburne, who was later created Marquess of Lansdowne in 1784. The present building was built in 1843 to replace the old one.
  • This fine looking pub has an excellent view over the Avon Valley in a westerly direction. The food is very good with a varied menu and, being a Wadworths pub, so too is the beer. It gets very busy at weekends, but try it in the week out of the holiday season and it is a great place to relax and take in the atmosphere. One of my favourites!
