Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Kettley Stone - geograph.org.uk - 1352659.jpg |
English: The Kettley Stone. Part of a sandstone rock outcrop that has been carved with a large, circular basin 1352670. It is quite different from the prehistoric rock art in the area but its purpose and date is unknown. It was probably made in Medieval times with metal tools. Its location at the bottom of a dry valley may be significant and it does bear resemblance to a font possibly associated with early Christian outdoor worship or pilgrimage. http://www.keystothepast.info/durhamcc/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRNMAP=N3407
The View is along the northern foot of Chattonpark Hill towards The Cheviots. http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/3788/kettley_stone.html |
