Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Kangaroo Inn - a minor mystery - geograph.org.uk - 872735.jpg |
English: The Kangaroo Inn - a minor mystery This is the only public house in the very small village of Aston on Clun. The inn sign used to show a picture of a kangaroo, an animal native only to Australia. This can be seen on the picture of the pub posted earlier for this square. On the pub's own website currently the picture on the opening screen also shows this. The website states that it is a late 18th century coaching inn and has been licensed continuously since 1831.
However the pub signs now show a picture of the 19th century steamship SS Kangaroo. On another website it is claimed that this popular multi-roomed pub was named after the ship from which the beams were used to build the pub in 1840 - the details of every landlord since then are displayed in the foyer. Whatever the history of the pub, it is a very pleasant traditional pub with good food at reasonable prices.
