He was sent abroad by newspapers on several occasionsto interview Tennyson, Swinburne, Rossetti, and other famousmen of letters. When William Gillette starred Sherlock Holmesin London, Geary went abroad as his publicity manager. Hemet Shaw, Moore and most of the prominent men. Labouchere,the editor of Truth welcomed his contributions. Gearys friendswere legion. The Ballad of Newspaper Row, written yearsago, sent his name circling through the country. Nathan Hale,Shanahans Old Shebeen and other widely different poemsillustrate his versatility. He was an authority on Shakespeareand lectured at Columbia and Fordham Universities on thedramatist. His graceful verse ranked with the dramatist and the shortstory writer in graphically visioning the struggles, the wit andthe pathos of the great city.
