ichibucto, and other places. Thenext objective point of the traveler is Moncton. Here are the general offices and the mechanical work-shops of the Intercolonial Railway. Apart from these,Moncton has the wonderful tidal phenomenon known asThe Bore. This bore is the result of the tidal wavestriking the Atlantic coast and being forced into the funnel-shaped Bay of Fundy. In the narrow estuary of the Petit-codiac River it meets with such resistance that the wholebody of the tide comes in in one rolling wave, sometimesrising to the height of ten feet or more, and which can onlybe understood by being seen. At Moncton the tourist may make his choice of severalroutes on the lines of the Intercolonial Railway. Goingwest 89 miles he passes through a fully cultivated andflourishing country. At St. John he is in one of the citiesof Canada which has endeavored to justify its aspirationsand ambitions. It has asserted its right to be the WinterPort of Canada, and has spent a large sum of money to 29

From Moncton, during the season of open navigation,the tourist may proceed to Point du Chene and thence by asplendidly appointed steamship may, in a few hours, reachSummerside, Prince Edward Island, and be in the Gardenof the Gulf. Or, if he prefer, he may continue his journeyto Pictou and thence make the journey to Charlottetown,the capital of the Island.
