Description
English: On February 13, 2020, the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan submitted dozens of books related to Indonesia to Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the most famous university in the sultanate country. The donation was held symbolically by the Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Dr. Sujatmiko, to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Brunei Darussalam, Datin Dr. Anita B Z Abdul Aziz at UBD.

No less than 52 books on politics, foreign policy and Indonesian diplomacy, economics, Sharia economics, law, history, culture, literature, languages, tourism, health, and sports were contributed by the Indonesian Embassy in the event. The book presentation was also witnessed by UBD librarians as well as Indonesian academics and students at the university.

"Donating this book is a form of friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia. Furthermore, I hope that in the future the Indonesian Embassy and UBD can create even greater collaboration programs such as seminars and culture performances," Ambassador Sujatmiko said in the opening ceremony.

Representing UBD, Dr. Joyce Teo Siew Yean, UBD Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs, expressed his appreciation for the book donation that will enrich the insight of UBD students about Indonesia. Joyce also explained the UBD current cooperations with universities in Indonesia such as the University of Indonesia, Gajah Mada University, Airlangga University, and the Bandung Institute of Technology within the framework of the ASEAN University Network.

Before the book donation event, Ambassador Sujatmiko also held a meeting with the Rector of UBD to discuss education cooperation between Indonesia and Brunei. In the meeting, the Rector of UBD said that Indonesia has became the third favorite place for the Discovery Year program (a short semester abroad program) of UBD students with almost 700 students have been sent to various places in Indonesia since 2011. Furthermore, UBD Rector hopes that UBD students can take part in internships in the industrial sector, especially in top start-ups in Indonesia

This book donation program was the first time conducted by the Indonesian Embassy to broaden the horizons of students and academics from Brunei Darussalam, especially UBD, regarding Indonesia. At the oldest university in Brunei, there are 15 Indonesian S1, S2 and S3 students and 8 Indonesian lecturers in various faculties and UBD study centers.
