y. Both achievements and misfortunes are shared by man with themembers of his group. The pride in the former is multiplied by mutualhappiness and rejoicing; and the burden of the latter is lightenedthrough the sympathy and relief extended by his fellowmen. One finds in organizations a comradeship that makes irksome toilbecome agreeable labor; a desire to work with and for others—andnot selfishly and alone; a chance for the functioning of inborn capa-bilities and talents that crave for expression; and an opportunity toaid in the furtherance of those ideals for the realization of which thereis a willingness to endure personal sacrifices. Illinois State Normal University is fortunate in having many or-ganizations which seek to enrich the life of the school by enhancinggreater interest in the work of certain departments and by contribut-ing through socicd activities and enjoyments to those special elementsof education that are generally found neither writ in books norcarved in stone. 94
