Description
English: A report issued on the 10th day of the 12th of the 16th year of Gia Long Emperor’s reign (1817) assembled by the Imperial Delegate for the Northern region (Bắc Thành), Lê Tông Chất (黎宗質), in the report he writes about 5 (five) Vietnamese soldiers who, while travelling from the city of Gia Định (modern day Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) to the Capital City (Huế), drifted ashore all the way to Japan (then ruled by the Tokugawa Shogunate). The report claims that around mid-1815 the soldiers left the city of Gia Định and afterwards they ended up drifting all the way to Japan, while the report doesn't specify where in Japan these soldiers ended up it claims that the soldiers were rescued by local officials and residents. Thanks to the support they got from the Japanese these Vietnamese soldiers were able to return back to their country via China (then ruled by the Manchu Qing Dynasty) through the Trấn Nam Quan border gate in the year Gia Long 16 (1817).
